Spotify adds new offline backup feature to listen to music when your connection drops
Spotify has launched a new feature called Offline Backup, designed to enhance users' listening experience when they lose internet connectivity. This feature automatically generates a playlist comprising recently streamed and queued songs that have already been downloaded or cached. The playlist is dynamic, adjusting over time based on individual listening habits. It appears in the app’s home feed when the device is offline, but users must enable offline listening in settings for it to work.
To activate the feature, users need to have listened to more than five songs recently. The auto-generated playlist offers customization options, allowing filtering and sorting by artist, genre, or mood. If users enjoy the mix, they can permanently add it to their library. The feature is exclusive to premium subscribers as it rolls out globally.
Previously teased by Spotify CEO Daniel Ek as "Your Offline Mix," the feature draws parallels to other services like YouTube Music’s Offline Mixtape and Netflix’s auto-download for shows and movies.
